The Mloovi Blog

Speaking to our world!

What the heck is Mloovi?

If you need a grounding in Mloovi before you commit to serious use, then read on. On the other hand you may already be using Mloovi, but would like to understand the rationale behind the project. If that’s the case, this for you too…

Mloovi is the home of a FREE tool which translates RSS feeds into 42 languages using Google Translate.

Who should use it?

If you’re a blogger who wants to expand your market worldwide, use Mloovi to generate an RSS feed in the language of your choice. Your users can subscribe to that URL and see your blog in their language whenever it’s updated.

If you’re a blog reader then use the Mloovi directory to peruse the latest translated feeds from across your world.

Importantly, Mloovi does not demand that English be one of the language pairs – do you need to translate French into Korean? Go ahead!

Does it cost anything?

The basic service is free to use, but you will see adverts included in the feeds. If you don’t want adverts you can sign up for one of our premium accounts when they become available.

How good are the translations

They’re not perfect but in tests we’ve found that most of the time it’s possible to understand what the posts are about. Remember, you’re reading a blog not some legal document that is going to change your life. If you need translations that will lead to pivotal life-decisions, then watch this space. We are currently developing a system that uses the intervention of professional human translators. This will be available to premium account holders, purchased on a blog-by-blog basis.

What if it doesnt work?

Development of Mloovi is at an early stage. Most problems seen so far are due to bad XML in the feeds. Mloovi can’t do anything about that: you will need to contact the feed owner if this is the case.

We are in beta testing, so if you do come across a problem email us on support[at]mloovi[dot]com or leave a comment here. Please tell us the feed URL you’re using, and which languages you wanted to translate to.

How did you come up with the idea?

In a very web2.0 way :) We’ve been working on www.learnitlists.com for some time, learning lots about language and translations. One day Mike Butcher (uk.techcrunch.com) asked on Twitter for someone to create a tool to translate RSS feeds into English, so he could investigate the European business start-up scene. Thus Mloovi was born.

So, thanks go to Mike for the inspiration to build Mloovi. Now, go and read his blog!

Why Mloovi?

Well, we need a name don’t we? Okay, and Mloovi sounds funny and funky in a web2.0 kinda way ;)

Seriously though, the main reason is that Mloovi is a transliteration of the word ‘to speak’ in Czech (mluvi). You learn something new every day!

Now go and learn something today on www.learnitlists.com – we developed that as well.

Want more features?

Well, you don’t get if you don’t ask! Drop us an email at features[at]mloovi[dot]com and we will see what we can do. We can’t guarantee a response (we are very busy people) but we can guarantee that we will read your email.

Alternatively, keep reading the blog and keep leaving comments. It’s our intention to keep Mloovi moving!
